“Tamerlano”

Handel’s “Tamerlano” for the First Time at La Scala

In 2017, Baroque opera returned to La Scala with the performance of George Frideric Handel’s “Tamerlano” as conducted by Diego Fasolis.

Under the direction of Davide Livermore (who made his La Scala debut) and in conjunction with Studio Giò Forma, the cast included many contemporary Baroque-style stars such as Bejun Mehta, Marianne Crebassa, and Franco Fagioli.

“Tamerlano” is the brainchild of Superintendent Pereira and the Baroque Ensemble of Orchestra Scaligera who wanted to restore the original sound of the opera through its execution on historical instruments.
