“My fundamental desire is not to amaze or even enchant, but to move.”
This declaration of intent by Arthur Honegger resonates timelessly as an unequivocal expression of artistic conception.
“Le Roi David,” written in 1921 by the poet René Morax and scored by Honegger on the recommendation of Igor Stravinsky himself, was a spectacular “mise-en-scène” that lasted nearly four hours.
Performed for the first time in Lyon in 1923, a revitalisation took place in 1998 for a Naxos production for which it was awarded the prize of “Les Victoires de La Musique.”
